I used spirulina in cold process soap last night. I soaped at 110F and used a green tea and lemongrass fragrance oil at trace and added the colors at that time too for a swirled soap. The soap behaved well and the green was very pretty. Tonite the green on the top of the soap has turned a tan color. The yellow mica I used is fine. I cut the soap into bars and the green is fine inside but I am wondering if it will turn Brown too. What was the problem? Does spirulina turn Brown in cold process soap? Please advise.

    Hi Shelley
You can wash the top of your soap or steam off the top. It looks like ash. It should stay green inside.

Will Spirulina leave a ring in the bath tub if it is used to colour bath salt and bath bombs?

Natural colorants do not dissolve as do pigments and little particles remain.  When you add oil to your bath bomb formula the natural colorant remains in the oil and that is the ring you may get in your bath tub.  It also depends on how much color is used.  If you stick to pastel shades this will decrease the color intensity and leave less of a ring.  You can also add 1 to 3 tsp  per 2 cup batch of turkey red castor oil (water based) to avoid the ring.  Regardless the ring will just wipe off and not stain with the natural colors.
