AGE RESTRICTION IS STRONGLY ENFORCED.  ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 18 AND OVER
Learn to craft cold process soap with your choice of scent and color.  We discuss shampoo bars and how easy they are to create using castor oil apple cider vinegar or beer.  Artisan soapers have started here to learn the basics and being that there are always new recipes, techniques, and advances this is this workshop attempts to be current.
Workshop includes the safe handling of sodium hydroxide (lye).
Safety First!   A common question: is lye necessary for soap making?  Yes! A base is needed with one hydroxide ion, so Sodium Hydroxide is used. But, don't NO WORRIES, there is no lye in the final product due to the chemical reaction that takes place between the carrier oils and the lye, which is converted into salt!  Our goal is for you to understand what lye is, how to handle lye & to respect lye, not fear it!  For this reason, we ask that you wear closed toed shoes, long pants, and a long sleeve top.  We will provide safety glasses and gloves.

We ask that you bring a blanket to insulate your soap on the way home. Supplies may vary. Soap must cure for 4 to 6 weeks after it has been removed from your mold. Consider this when booking your workshop.

All supplies are included at no additional cost. If one chooses to make more than 1 batch, each add'l batch is $5.00 per batch (max of 2) and only after each participant has completed their recipe. For further clarification, kindly contact us

In this basic level soap making class, we will show you how to make soap from fats, oils, lye, and water. Participants learn how to work safely with soap making equipment, and create naturally luxurious handcrafted soaps for your family and friends. In addition, you will get hands-on experience, a true and tried recipe that can be converted into different formulations by changing the super-fat, and the confidence to attempt to make soap on your own at home.

We'll discuss how to formulate your own recipes, properly use and store lye, mixing lye and water, oils for soap making, fragrance oils vs. essential oils, superfatting, molding, and curing. As an added bonus, students will take home 1 pound of the soap you made in class! We also discuss shampoo bars and how beer and apple cider vinegar can be added to your recipe and how this is achieved.  Class participants will also receive a 15% discount to be used on the day of the class.
No previous experience required, but useful.  All the tricks of the trade are discussed in this hands-on workshop.  The class is limited to 12 participants.

Please note: This is a basic, beginners class. If you are looking to learn to swirl, embeds or any other advanced techniques, please look to our Soap II-Advanced workshop.
